Industrial Property (IP) Manager Automotive

The IP Manager Automotive supports the business of SEKURIT (Saint-Gobain Automotive Glazing Division - Mobility) in defining, implementing and enforcing a dedicated IP strategy, permanently aligned with the business strategy. The position could be based in Paris or in Germany (Herzogenrath - Aachen).

Together with the 2 other IP Managers Automotive and the 4 IP Teams (Patent Attorneys that are based in China, France, Germany, India), he/she manages a high quality patents portfolio that counts several hundreds of patent families.

Main tasks devoted to the IP Manager Automotive:

• Manage patents portfolio and related cases, supervise regular re-assessments of patents portfolio value.
• Manage and follow the cost evolution of the patent portfolio, optimize and control costs.
• Make the business aware of its patents portfolio and help to monitor the competitors’ ones thanks to IP Intelligence.
• Establish the Freedom to Operate assessing the IP risks prior to commercialize a new product or process, or an extension to a new country.
• Benchmark the IP practices of competitors.
• Negotiate and implement (IP part) technical co-development agreements together with the demanding party and the legal representative.
• Coordinate enforcement action: from evidences collection/reverse engineering supervision, analysis supervision, action plan elaboration to execution of decided action plan together with the relevant patent and legal attorneys.
• Negotiate the licensing-out agreements.
• Organize the defensive action in case of alleged infringement by a third party.
• Provide IP awareness sessions to Sekurit functions and employees.

Intimacy and intensive work with multiple Sekurit departments:  Sales & Marketing, R&D and Innovation, Purchasing, Industry and Manufacturing, Legal; occasionally Finance & Tax.

Profile:

• Scientific or technical educational background – typically engineer – no specific technical domain (note: IP background is not required).
• Minimum 5 years of experience within the automotive industry, preferably within Sekurit.
• Perfectly fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing); German is a plus.
• A first multicultural experience is welcomed.

Personality:

• Open-minded with a strong team spirit – shall become a true accomplice with the 2 other Sekurit IP managers –, enjoy multiple contacts and networking.
• Autonomous, highly reliable and curious.
• Shall enjoy reading and writing documents (patents, contracts).
• Good communication skills.
• At ease with digital tools. Education to IP specifics and IT tools will be provided.
